On the Other Side of the Glass...

In the fall of 2005, while attending college in London, Matt visited Venice, Italy. In addition to the canals it is so famous for, Venice also has a number of shops filled with glass art from the nearby island of Murano. He bought more than a few glass presents to take home to the family. His desire to work with glass was rekindled. However, as the semester was coming to a close, it was time to ship himself and his souvenirs home. Unfortunately, a few of the gifts broke. That settled it, Matt moved back home and spent all the money he had set aside for an apartment on a small shed, a kiln, a torch, a few tools, and some glass.

Currently, Matt blows glass under the name Sand and Fire. Things have really expanded from that small tin shed to the current workshop. There's a bigger torch and a lot more tools. Over the years, Matt has been lucky to learn from a few generous glassblowers, however, he is mostly self taught.
